Project Overview
The product:
Mondly is a language learning app that provides learners for over 32 unique languages with variations for some languages. It is a free software that has a paid packages. Mondly has a variety of apps ranging from a kids apps to AR to VR and more. The apps also has scalable levels based off learners skill level. In gereneal the lessons are in vocabulary and conversational skills.
The Problem
Mondly is still not as well-known and popular as other language apps.
The Goal
Re-design Mondly to respond to users' needs to attract more users and acquire a bigger market share.
1. Introduction
We started this course project with a preliminary evaluation of Mondly Languages and Mondly Augmented Reality (AR).
A. Appropriateness of the materials to the task & and audience
-
Despite not being exclusively for kids, the AR app's teaching style, content, and tasks are more suitable for children than adults. This mismatch in content may negatively impact the user experience and lead to customer loss.
B. Ease of Use
-
The AR app has some user-friendly features but lacks clear instructions in certain areas.
-
Lack of clear instructions on how to interact with AR objects and their features needs improvement.
-
The size of the virtual assistant in AR is out of proportion and requires users to move their devices to follow the lesson.
-
The app offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. Differences between skill levels are not clearly defined, causing frustration for users. Content largely remains the same across skill levels, making it challenging to identify progress.
C. Motivational Design
-
The app's design may not appeal to older age groups. The design features, such as colorful and life-like objects, may initially grab learners' attention. However, the design may not suit learners of different age groups and interests. The inappropriateness of design features for various age and interest groups may impact user engagement and satisfaction. Learner characteristics, backgrounds, and learning styles should be considered.
